Afterthoughts of Christmas......

It came as no surprise to see a blanket of snow surrounding us Christmas morning; the weatherman had said there was a very good possibility of it happening and I was pleased it wasn't one of those times when he's wrong. What did surprise me was the sound of singing birds that accompanied it. I guess not all birds went South for the winter.
My Christmas spirit has been higher than usual this year, don't really know why, but it had me bringing out more decorations than I've done in a few years and even doing a bit of shopping. My son and I called a shopping truce 3-4 years ago, after deciding it was less stressful and more productive if we just bought our own gifts, however, when he made a comment around Thanksgiving that he didn't have a thing but work clothes to wear to a dinner we had been invited to and that was all the encouragement I needed. That meant I also had to ask his shirt size....so much for surprising him.
It's was a quiet day, which is fine with me. Sometimes memories of a house full of children and grandchildren catches me off guard and brings a smile to my face and a little sadness to my heart.....but I recover. Another few years and my children will be looking forward to their quiet holidays too.
The rains are back, just as the weatherman predicted, long gone is the snow that gave us a Christmas card yard for a day and back is the ugliness of our winter yard. I'm looking forward to the new year and thinking about some things I want to do come summer.

Happy New Year to all........
